Basingstoke Colorectal Nurse Specialists

Karen Hoare

Karen Hoare trained at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, qualifying as an RGN in 1986.  Since then, Karen has gained a significant amount of experience at ward level, nursing general surgical and colorectal patients prior to taking on her current role as Colorectal Nurse Specialist.

Karen Lopez

Karen Lopez trained at Winchester qualifying as an RGN in 1981.  Karen has had a wide range of experience working on medical and surgical wards and in the community as a Marie Curie Nurse.

Both Karens areas of expertise include; stoma care, colorectal cancer, Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, peritoneal malignancy and pelvic floor surgery.

Their role is to support patients and their families from the time of diagnosis onwards.  They are available to explain investigations, surgery and other treatment options available and will be able to discuss any concerns.

The Specialist Nurses are the main point of contact and responsible for coordinating care providing a link between all members of the Team.  Patients will see the Clinical Nurse Specialists at outpatient appointments, on the ward if surgery is required and any further discharge advice and follow up as required.
